Using the FileTrac Document Editor
Please read the information below to familiarize yourself with a few important aspects of using the tool:
If you are prompted to choose a program to open a file - see below and click “OK”.
-You may notice that we utilize a custom document extension called ".ftdoc" with the FileTrac Document Editor. This is strictly for the functionality of the tool itself, and the original file extension is always maintained.
-Documents are saved to the server within a few seconds and you will be notified once your edits have been saved.
-As soon as you use File > Save with your mouse or Control+S with your keyboard to save a document (of any type), it is immediately saved back to the FileTrac server. If you save the document several times as you're working on it, and before you close it, it will post the changes to the server each time.
-Once you close a document, you must return to FileTrac and re-download it using the "Edit"
Document icon again if you want to make further edits.

Viewing the Log for the FileTrac Document Editor
To view the log for the FileTrac Document Editor tool expand the ‘System Tray’ area on your taskbar, right-click on the FileTrac Document Editor icon, and select ‘View Log’.
Using Windows Notifications
By default, the tool uses its own notification system to alert you when a file reposts correctly or fails to repost. If you are having trouble viewing these notifications or the tool is unable to display these notifications, you can change the tool to use the Windows Notifications.
To use Windows Notifications expand the ‘System Tray’ area on your taskbar, right-click on the FileTrac Document Editor icon, and select ‘Use Windows Notifications’.
Setting a File Upload Delay
The FileTrac Document Editor tool will automatically repost a document to FileTrac once the document has finished saving. However, if you are receiving an error message stating that the document couldn’t be saved due to a sharing violation or the tool logs an error uploading due to the document being used by another process, you will need to set a file upload delay. The file upload delay will delay the tool from attempting to repost the document to FileTrac, allowing the save process to complete.
To setup the file upload delay:
1. Expand the ‘System Tray’ area on your taskbar, right-click on the FileTrac Document Editor icon, and select ‘File Upload Delay’.
2. Enter the length of time (in seconds) to delay the tool from attempting to repost and click the ‘Ok’ button. We recommend initially setting the file upload delay between 1 to 3 seconds and incrementing the time until the tool is able to successfully repost the document in FileTrac.
Adding Additional Directories for Monitoring
The FileTrac Document Editor tool will save a temporary copy of the document you are editing to a folder in your AppData folder. If you are not able to save documents to this default folder when editing, you can add additional directories for the tool to monitor when editing. If you save a document you edited and the log doesn’t show that the file has reposted successfully or failed, this would be a good indication that the file is saving to a different directory.
To add additional directories for the FileTrac Document Editor tool to monitor:
1. Expand the ‘System Tray’ area on your taskbar, right-click on the FileTrac Document Editor icon, and select ‘Monitoring Directories’.
2. Type in the location of the new directory, up to 5 new directories, that you want the tool to monitor and click the ‘Save’ button. Then, press the ‘OK’ button to close the alert informing you to restart the FileTrac Document Editor tool.
3. Restart the FileTrac Document Editor tool for the changes to take effect.
4. Exit the tool to close the tool.
5. Run the tool from Start > FileTrac Document Editor > FileTrac Document Editor.
